Father Byron Huntley Edwards, age 84, of Morris Chapel, Tenn., formerly of Portageville, MO., died on Jan. 18, at Savannah, Tenn.
He was born on July 10, 1925 to Stanley F. Edwards and Kitty Lee (Adams) Edwards in Portageville, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Hal Edwards.
Father Byron was a 1943 graduate of Portageville High School. He served in the Navy during WWII, and attended Vanderbilt University and graduated at St. Louis College of Pharmacy. He then returned to Portageville and owned and operated Edwards Pharmacy until 1984 when he entered the seminary, Sacred Heart School of Theology in Hales Corners, Wis. Father Byron was ordained on Dec. 19, 1987 by Bishop John J. Leibrecht, D.D., PhD for the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau.
Parishes where Father Byron served included Sacred Heart Parish in Caruthersville, SS. Peter and Paul Parish in Pulaskifield, Mo., St. Edward Parish in Cassville, and St. Francis Xavier Parish in Sikeston. He retired due to health reasons in 1993 and resided in Morris Chapel, Tenn. until his death.
Survivors include one niece; two nephews; one sister-in-law; and numerous great nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 22 with prayer service to be held at 7 p.m. at St. Eustachius Church in Portageville.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 23 at Eustachius Church with The Most Rev. James V. Johnston, Jr., Bishop of Springfield-Cape Girardeau presiding at the funeral liturgy. Also present will be Most Rev. John J. Leibrecht, Bishop-Emeritus and brother priests. Arrangements are under the direction of Delisle Funeral Home in Portageville, Mo.
