Monett police respond to recent rash of crime

Wednesday, January 20, 2010

Thefts from cars, graffiti painting and a commercial burglary kept Monett police busy over the weekend.

According to a report from officers, thefts were reported from vehicles at 605 Third St., 511 Fifth St., 402 Sixth St., 611 Eighth St. and 616 9th St. All the vehicles were unlocked at the time.

Owners reported cash, checks, personal papers, stereos and speakers were taken from the vehicles. The thefts were believed to have occurred on Saturday night or early Sunday.

Graffiti was painted on three properties a considerable distance apart on Friday night. Graffiti was found at 100 Main St., 307 15th St. and 106 E. Sycamore.

Officers are also investigating a burglary at the Qwik Stop at 812 E. Highway 60. Entry was apparently made sometime Saturday night by throwing a concrete block through the door. The owner reported cigarettes, lottery tickets and beer were taken.

Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to call the Crime Stoppers Tips line at 354-8477 or 888-635-8477. All information will remain anonymous.
