Outscored 44-25 in the middle two quarters, the Monett Cubs were unable to make up those points and lost to Webb City 73-60 last night in a non-conference basketball game on the road.
"I was proud of the way we battled," said Monett Coach Ty Goetz. "The guys never let down and gave us a chance. We had a letdown at the end of the third quarter but other than that we answered everything they threw at us."
The Cubs led 20-19 after the first period but could not contain Webb City in the middle two quarters.
Kennon Cox led Monett in scoring with 18 points. Other players contributing to the scoring were Kyle Woods with 15 points, Tyler Green with 14 points, Josh Shaner with 7 points, Spenser Witt with 4 points and Devin Steward with 2 points.
Green was Monett's assists leader with eight. Shaner led the team in rebounds with five and had three blocked shots.
Monett is now 4-10 on the year.
Monett lost the junior varsity contest 77-35.
Scoring for the jayvee Cubs were Aaron Hall and Tyler Webb with 8 points each, Jarred Witt with 7 points, Steward with 5 points, Christian Wooldridge with 4 points, Chandler Wammack with 2 points and Jacob Fair with 1 point.
Monett plays tomorrow night against the Carl Junction Bulldogs in the Carl Junction Tournament.
