Girls basketball teams from Pierce City and Verona as well as the Purdy boys won but the Pierce City boys lost in games played Monday and Tuesday.
Pierce City vs. Dadeville
The Pierce City Lady Eagles took a 16-6 first quarter lead and went on to defeat Dadeville 58-49 on Monday.
"We began the game with a lot of intensity and that set the tone for the night," said Pierce City Coach Marty Rinehart.
Katelyn Osborn led the Lady Eagles in scoring with 17 points. Also contributing to the scoring effort were Emily Ashley with 10 points, Taylor Mettlach with 9 points, Abby Ashley with 8 points, Megan Golubski with 6 points, Rachel Miller with 5 points, Krishna Merriman with 2 points and Beth Parrigon with 1 point.
Abby Ashley and Mettlach led the team in rebounds with nine each.
Verona vs. Pleasant Hope
In the Marionville Tournament on Monday, the Verona Lady Wildcats took a 35-23 lead by intermission enroute to defeating Pleasant Hope 65-57.
"We came out strong tonight," said Verona Coach Ryan Yates. "The girls were determined to win."
Tristan Carrasquillo led Verona to the victory with 26 points. Also scoring for the Lady Wildcats were Jenna Chadd with 16 points, Jessica Smith with 10 points, Jori Dodson with 7 points, Beth Bigham with 5 points and Taylor Pinkly with 1 point.
Carrasquillo was the team leader in rebounds with nine and in steals with five.
Purdy vs. Diamond
In a non-conference game, the Purdy Eagles grabbed a 32-17 lead by halftime on the way to downing Diamond 57-55 on Tuesday.
Diamond rallied in the fourth quarter to outscore the Eagles 23-11 and get within a basket, but Purdy hung on to win.
Landon Terry led Purdy in scoring with 22 points. Other players scoring for the Eagles were Drew Williams with 14 points, Riley Veith with 10 points, Cody Hall with 7 points and Devon Bennett and Kevin Miller with 2 points each.
PC vs. Pleasant Hope
In the Stockton Tournament last night, the Pierce City Eagles fell behind 32-14 by intermission and could not recover, eventually losing to Pleasant Hope 58-43.
Robert Baldwin led Pierce City in scoring with 26 points. Also scoring for the Eagles were Derek Turner with 8 points, Cedric O'Hara with 4 points, Cody Cox and Garen Cantrell with 2 points each and Chance Chapman with 1 point.
