Cody Stephens

Richard "Cody" Stephens, age 23, of Cherryvale, Kan., formerly of Monett, died on Jan. 16, at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan.

He was born on May 6, 1986 to Randy and Toni (Stephens) Gower in Springfield.

Cody is survived by his parents; maternal grandparents: Paul Stephens, of Monett; maternal great-grandmother: Thelma Stephens, of Washburn; paternal grandparents: Terry and Mary Gower, of Welch, Okla. and Ann Spahon of Baxter Springs, Kan.; and two sisters: Ashley and Gannyn Gower, of Cherryvale, Kan.

Cody was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Joan Stephens.

Cody was a student at the Coffeyville Kansas Community College. He attended the Cowboy Riverside Church in Nevada. He loved bull riding and was a member of several associations.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 21 at Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home in Monett. Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 22 at the funeral home with Rev. Roger Beach officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery near Monett.
