With 84 points, the Monett Cubs wrestling team finished 12th among 16 teams competing Saturday in the always tough Branson Tournament.
Ozark, ranked third in the state in Class 3A, won the tourney with 260 1/2 points. Kearney, ranked second in 3A, was second with 36 1/2 points.
Monett had one individual champion. Ethan Davis took first place at 140 pounds. He had a 4-0 tournament record and defeated Dalton England 20-5 in the title match.
Davis was named the tournament's outstanding wrestler.
Chris Renteria, of the Cubs, took second place at 125 pounds. He lost to Colby Skaggs, of Seneca, in the final match and had a tourney record of 4-1.
Placing sixth for Monett were Carter Huffmaster, at 135 pounds, and Matt Schiffner, at 171 pounds. Huffmaster had a 3-2 tourney record, and Schiffner was 2-2 in the tournament.
Also wrestling for the Cubs but not placing were Levi Neely, at 103 pounds. Juan Renteria, at 130 pounds, and Ty Irwin, at 189 pounds.
Four grapplers from Monett placed in the junior varsity tournament at Nevada on Saturday.
Coming in second were Clayton Patton, at 130 pounds, Devon Overall, at 135 pounds, and Marcus Enloe, at 145 pounds. Finishing third was Nicky Roberts, at 112 pounds.
Not placing were Corey Skipper, at 103 pounds, Bryan Beckwith, at 103 pounds, Joey Albrecht, at 135 pounds, Cade Liles, at 145 pounds, and Christian Romero, at 215 pounds.
Monett will compete in a triangular at home against Seneca and Republic on Thursday.
