Springfield-Springfield Livestock Marketing Center: Cow and Bull Auction Close for 1/11/10

   Compared last week, breaking and boning slaughter cows and slaughter
bulls sold 3.00-4.00 higher while lean cows sold 2.00 higher. Packers
buyers needed cows today and bid aggressively to replace inventory which
was depleted over the holidays and remains limited because of lighter
supplies this past week due to the weather. The offering included a high
percent of cull dairy cows and a moderate supply of bred cows but only a
handful of cow/calf pairs. The supply was moderate and demand good for
slaughter classes.
