Downtown is the place to be this Friday night

Thursday, January 7, 2010

This Friday will mark the third evening of special activities in downtown Monett as more than a dozen merchants will throw their doors open for an extended evening. Broadway Nights returns with after-Christmas sales and live entertainment.

Sales offered by participating businesses will be the main focus of the night, said Jenny Schulz, one of the organizers. Rather than focus on a specific theme, Schulz said good bargains and good times would be the emphasis of the January evening.

Live entertainment will include the Monett Community Church Praise Band, playing at Denali Dreams from 6 to 9 p.m., and the band Heart's Cry, playing at Mocha Jo's.

Several artists will be participating at some of the businesses. An exhibit of photographs by Monett native Lindsay Anderson will be displayed at Mocha Jo's.

A painting demonstration will be underway at Denali Dreams. Joining resident painter and teacher Dave Bennett will be Steve Easterwood, from Dexter. An illustrator who got hooked on outdoor painting while accompanying Bennett in 2001, Easterwood has a number of paintings and prints on display. One of his prints, worth $40, will be given away in a drawing that evening.

Cassville clay sculptor Connie Holland will also be on hand at Denali Dreams showing several of her creations. Holland will be teaching clay sculpting classes every Thursday at Denali Dreams beginning later this month.

Brenda Davis, of Monett, has a display of jewelry she has created at Denali Dreams. She will be on hand talking about creating custom jewelry that matches gowns or fits in for special occasions.

Shaun Bennett, one of the Broadway Nights organizers, said the event will be held regardless of the weather. He encouraged folks to come out for a good time despite the season and take advantage of exceptional opportunities for shopping and fellowship.

Downtown businesses that are offering special sales tomorrow night include: Bruner Pharmacy, Wicked Lovely, Brownsberger's, Connie's Photography, Denali Dreams, Front Page, Westco, The Trunk, Mocha Jo's, Blessings Books and Gifts and Pepper's & Co.
