Getting balanced scoring, the Monett Lady Cubs came back in the second half to defeat the Joplin Lady Eagles 52-40 in a non-conference basketball game at Monett on Monday.
"It was a good, strong effort, especially in the second half," said MHS Coach Derrek Uhl.
Monett, 3-7 on the year, started out well, outscoring the Lady Eagles 10-6 in the first quarter. Joplin came back, however, to take a 22-20 halftime lead.
The Lady Cubs took charge in the second half, outscoring Joplin 20-12 in the third period and 12-6 in the last quarter.
Hunter Glouse led Monett in scoring with 16 points. Also scoring for the Lady Cubs were Amanda McKinney with 14 points, Madison Carlin with 13 points, Jenny Frazier with 4 points, Aubrey Lemaster with 3 points and Dedre Beckett with 2 points.
Carlin led the team in rebounds with seven and in steals with five. McKinney was the team leader in assists with six.
Monett lost the junior varsity game 35-32.
Scoring for the Monett jayvees were Anna Cloud with 15 points, Mackenzie Lay with 7 points and Raigan Ratliff and Jessica Schmidt with 5 points each.
Monett will be in action tomorrow at home versus Diamond in non-league play.
