Southwest, Wheaton Win In Holiday Tourney

Southwest and Wheaton won second round games in the annual boys Southwest Holiday Tournament on Tuesday.

In the semifinals, top-seeded Southwest grabbed a 43-21 lead by halftime enroute to downing Purdy 73-43.

Levi Roberts fired in 26 points to spark Southwest to the victory. Also scoring for Southwest were Josh Hartin with 13 points, Austin Rettman with 9 points, Matt Whittington with 8 points, Tyler Ferguson and Skylar Knoll with 6 points each and Travis Hayworth with 5 points.

Landon Terry led Purdy's scoring attack with 15 points. Also scoring for Purdy were Cody Hall with 7 points, Drew Williams with 6 points, Devon Bennett with 5 points, T.J. Farris with 4 points and Ryan Veith, Garen Nelson and Glen Scott with 2 points each.

In the consolation round, the Wheaton Bulldogs, leading Exeter just 44-42 after three quarters, pulled way in the final stanza to log a 70-54 win.

Donovan Bartkoski was Wheaton's leading scorer with 18 points. Also scoring for Wheaton were James Musick with 15 points, Jakob Beck with 13 points, Blake Dilbeck with 6 points, Sean Goostree and Jory Bartkoski with 5 points each and Bubba Galvin and Jesse Mitchell with 4 points each.

The Exeter Tigers were led by Zach Wubker's 19 points. Also scoring for Exeter were Justin Brattin with 16 points, Brock Sorensen with 5 points, Ryan Hobbs with 4 points, Kong Lee and Tyler White with 3 points each and Brandon Rayburn and Austin Howell with 2 points each.

Pierce City was outscored 15-3 in the third quarter by East Newton and could not recover in the other consolation round game, losing 41-33.

Robert Baldwin led Pierce City in scoring with 10 points. Also scoring for Pierce City were Derek Turner with 8 points, Cedric O'Hara with 7 points, Wayne Joe Sooter with 6 points and Cody Fitzpatrick with 2 points.

Pea Ridge won the other semifinal game over Billings 83-64.
