The Purdy Lady Eagles won but boys teams from Pierce City and Verona were defeated in basketball games played on Monday and Tuesday.
In a non-conference game on Monday, the Lady Eagles of Purdy took a 23-12 lead after the opening period and went on to beat College Heights 67-30.
Scoring for Purdy were Addy Roller with 23 points, Shelby White with 19 points, Audrey Patton and Brooke Swadley with 6 points each, Brittany Mareth with 5 points, Mattie White and Rachel Neill with 2 points each and Taylor Moller with 1 point.
On Tuesday the Pierce City boys lost to East Newton 54-43. Pierce City trailed 30-15 at intermission.
Scoring for Pierce City were Robert Baldwin with 15 points, Derek Turner with 11 points, Cedric O'Hara with 9 points, Wayne Joe Sooter with 4 points and Cody Cox and Garron Cantrell with 2 points each.
Turner led Pierce City in rebounds with 12. Sooter topped the team with 6 assists. Baldwin had 3 steals.
The Verona boys fell behind 12-4 after the first quarter and could not recover in losing to Marionville 60-40.
Wesley Kissinger led Verona in scoring with 17 points. Also scoring were Cody Ernsberger with 13 points, Ascension Estrada with 7 points, Seth Losack with 2 points and Larry Patterson with 1 point.
Drew Setzer tallied 19 points for Marionville. Also scoring were Jordan Dykes with 14 points, Justin Hansen and Caleb Wells with 6 points each and Brandon McKinney with 4 points.
