Monett firefighters battled a blaze at a rural Monett industry on Sunday, limiting damage to a small portion of the building.
Firefighters were called to International Ingredients, two miles south of Highway 60 on Farm Road 1110 around 5:40 p.m. on Sunday. Monett Rural Fire Association Chief Kevin Litchfield credited a quick response for limiting damage.
The fire broke out in a drier area where the form dries milk whey product in the process of manufacturing baby pig feed. Since no one was present at the time of the fire, Litchfield called in the fire marshal to rule on its origin.
The fire marshal determined the blaze started in an electric outlet on the wall, burned through the insulation in the wall and the foam board on the ceiling and walls. The intense heat buckled the metal on the exterior wall.
"It could have been a lot worse," Litchfield said.
Firefighters from the Monett city, Pierce City and Freistatt departments were called to assist. Litchfield called off mutual aid for all but the city firemen when the blaze proved manageable.
Around 15 firefighters battled the fire.
