|Girls basketball teams from Purdy and Verona won, but the Exeter boys were defeated in a light slate of area games played last night.|
The Purdy Lady Eagles went to 6-1 on the year with a 73-31 triumph over Wheaton.
Purdy opened up a 22-3 bulge after the opening quarter enroute to the win.
Shelby White led the Lady Eagles in scoring with 22 points. Also scoring for Purdy were Addy Roller with 15 points, Audrey Patton with 12 points, Brooke Swadley with 11 points, Mattie White with 6 points, Brittany Mareth with 3 points, Kristyn Cornman with 2 points and Rachael Neill and Shelby Scott with 1 point each.
Mica Tichenor was Wheaton's leading scorer with 15 points. Also scoring for Wheaton were Megan Brattin with 11 points, Kasey Littlefield with 3 points and Kaitlin England with 2 points.
The Verona Lady Wildcats, 4-2 on the season, raced to a 36-2 lead after the first period on the way to beating Sarcoxie 67-37.
Jenna Chadd led Verona's scoring attack with 26 points. Also scoring for Verona were Tristan Carrasquillo with 16 points, Jessica Smith with 13 points, Taylor Pinkly with 4 points, Jori Dodson and Beth Bigham with 3 points each and Whitney Shue with 2 points.
Carrasquillo led the Lady Wildcats on the boards with seven rebounds and in steals with seven. Smith was the team leader in assists with six.
The Exeter Tigers were outscored 14-4 in the second quarter and could not recover in losing to Hurley 58-54.
Zach Wubker led Exeter in scoring with 16 points. Also scoring for the Tigers were Brendan Rayburn with 9 points, Brock Sorensen with 8 points, Justin Brattin with 7 points, Ryan Hobbs and Tyler White with 6 points each and Cody Stringer with 2 points.
