Personnel Highlights Library Board Meeting

Thursday, December 17, 2009
Several staff changes in library branches of the Barry-Lawrence Regional Library were noted at the December meeting of the library's Board of Trustees.

The part-time children's coordinator at Miller has resigned, effective Jan. 7, 2010, said Jean Berg, library director. The position has been advertised.

Kelli Getman, full-time children's coordinator at Cassville, is planning to resign, and Cheryl Williams, who works part-time at the Cassville Branch, will move into that position. The part-time position will be advertised.

Les Medlin, part-time custodian at the Aurora, Marionville and Miller branches, has indicated he wishes to no longer clean the Miller Branch. Branch staff will take care of custodial duties at the Miller Branch.

In other matters, the Barry County Enhanced Enterprise Zone has requested a letter indicating the library's support or opposition to the Barry County EEZ application, Berg said. If no letter is sent, the EEZ will take the lack of response as supporting the EEZ application. The consensus of the board was there is no need to send a letter.

Berg reported that the first current tax revenue checks have been received for December. The amount is $25,503.13 less than 2008 December current receipts due to the forced lowering of the tax levy to 15 cents per $100 valuation.

The Nov. 11 Veteran's Day book and garage sale raised $1,140.10 for the Monett Library building project. A silent auction is currently underway in the Monett Branch lobby. Aurora and Marionville Friends of the Library have also been raising dollars for their branches.

Installation of the fiber optic connection for the Monett Branch is underway, Berg said.

The library district is responsible for preparation of the conduit path, which will involve digging up the lawn in the back of the building, installation of PVC pipe and core drilling through the brick work on the outside of the building plus installation of a grounded and dedicated 110V AC outlet. All expenses for this installation will be reimbursed by MOREnet.

Berg noted fundraising toward the $33,800 match for the Gates Foundation Grant is progressing. The Gates grant of $93,600 will be used to purchase 36 new public access computers plus software, installation and maintenance for library branches over the next two years. Letters requesting donations to match the Gates Grant have been mailed out and further solicitations will be made.Board members adopted the revised policy for borrower registration and non-resident registration. There was discussion about the family non-resident card, which will allow borrowers to designate authorized family members as users if they live in the household. No additional fee will be charged.

Midwest Employers Mutual Insurance Company's bid of $4,870 for worker's comp insurance was accepted by the board.

The next meeting of the board will be held on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010.
