Robert John "Bob" Davis, 62, of Jasper, Mo., passed away suddenly shortly before noon on Saturday, December 12, 2009.
He was born on March 29, 1947, in Lockwood, Missouri, to Orla and Lola Davis.
He served his country for four years in the U.S. Marine Corps and spent most of his life working as a contractor, doing plumbing, heating, air conditioning and electrical work.
He was saved when he was nine-years-old and answered the call to preach in 1981. He was a member of Blessings of Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Carterville, Mo., where he previously served as pastor for four years, following a four-year stint as pastor at Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Grandview. He had the distinct privilege of baptizing four of his grandchildren and numerous others.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and two brothers.
He married Joyce Ann Jeffries on December 22, 1967 and she survives. He is also survived by three daughters: Stephanie Goad, of Joplin, Mo., Dollie Shields, of Monett, Mo. and Roberta Wood, of Fair Grove, Mo.; two sons-in-law: David Goad and Jake Wood; two brothers: Virgil Davis, of Monett; Orla Davis Jr., of St. James, Mo.; two sisters: Eunice Minor, of Wentworth, Mo. and Rozella Marsh of El Faisan, Santiago, Mexico; eight grandchildren: Zachary and Dylan Goad; Derek, Darian and Casey Shields; Joseph and Jonah Wood; and Andrew Stanley, along with many nieces and nephews and several honorary children and grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on December 18, 2009 at Weng Funeral Home in Jasper, with burial to follow at 2 p.m. at the Missouri Veteran's Cemetery in Springfield, Mo. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 17 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Blessings of Faith Missionary Baptist church may be sent in care of the funeral home.
