With 116 points the Monett Cubs wrestling team finished sixth among 10 teams competing Saturday in the Carl Junction Tournament.
Seneca won the event with 267 1/2 points. Other teams and scores were Pittsburg, Kan. 205, Carthage 139, Carl Junction 136 1/2, Webb City 117, Nevada 98 1/2, McDonald County 80, Labette County, Kan. 76 1/2 and Cherryvale, Kan. 31.
Two Cub grapplers took first place. Chris Renteria, at 125 pounds, won all five matches and defeated Andy Wasson, of Seneca, in the finals by fall. Ethan Davis also won all five matches and beat Trent Landis, of Carl Junction, by a 5-0 decision in the finals.
Matt Schiffner at 171 pounds took second place. He was pinned by Dalton Cummings, of Seneca, in the finals. Schiffner finished with a 3-1 record.
Juan Renteria at 130 pounds finished fourth. He was decisioned in the third place match by Mari Corado, of Pittsburg . He had a 3-2 record.
Also wrestling for Monett but not placing were: Bryan Beckwith at 103 pounds, 0-3 record; Nicky Roberts at 112 pounds, 0-2 record; Carter Huffmaster at 135 pounds, 2-2 record; Marcus Enloe at 140 pounds, 0-3 record; Zach Irwin at 152 pounds, 1-3 record; and Kurran Blamey at 160 pounds, 0-4 record.
Monett will next compete in the Springfield Holiday Tournament on Dec. 28 and 29.
