Opal L. Harper, 74, of Monett, MO, passed away Monday, December 7, 2009, at Monett Health Care Center.
Mrs. Harper was born April 20, 1935, in Cassville, MO, the daughter of Charles and Jessie Wallace Foster. She was a special education teacher in Jackson, CA, a movie theatre manager, and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Monett.
She married Vernon Harper on April 20, 1955, in Carson City, NV, and he survives.
Additional survivors include three sons: Richard Harper and his wife, Marie, of Monett, Robert Harper, of Monett, and Randy Harper, of Monett; one daughter: Melody Powers, of Monett; two sisters: Betty Barrett, of CA, and Joyce Eimer, of CA; one brother: Jim Shields, of CA; 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a parent to numerous foster children.
She was preceded in death by two sisters: Linda Shields and Ruby Shields; and one brother, Billy Joe Shields.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, December 11, 2009 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Monett with Benjamin Leavitt and Mark Smith, ministers, officiating.
Burial will be held in Monett IOOF Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to the Diabetes Association.
