* The Barry County Court on Monday refused to honor a requisition for one and a half months' salary for the hire of an extra guard in the county jail.

* Mrs. H.H. Westbay, of Monett, entertained Ruth Goodwin of Springfield on Sunday.

December 7, 1949

* The musical bells suspended from intersections in downtown Monett are pealing forth with Christmas songs again this year.

* Coach Kenley Richardson reported 30 boys turned out for the first basketball practice yesterday. Returning lettermen are Jack Fox, Herman Lehde, Bruce McFee, Jim Ellis and Jack Kelley.

* Six business firms in Monett were broken into sometime last night, according to Monett Police.

* The junior class at Purdy High School will present its annual play Paint The Town Pink on Saturday in the school auditorium.

* Randy Jameson, a senior at Monett High School, has started on a promising career as a cartoonist with the creation of a strip Thurman which appears in the Southwest Missouri State College newspaper.

* Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church southeast of Monett will celebrate its 100th anniversary on December 7.

* The Monett Jazz Band has been invited to present concerts tomorrow at the junior high and high school in Reeds Spring.

* Members of the Monett Chamber of Commerce board of directors and their spouses were guests of Mike Garrett, Chamber president, and Mrs. Garrett for a Christmas dinner at the Garrett home last night.

* President Roosevelt conferred with Jesse Jones, federal loan administrator, and Norman Davis, chairman of he Red Cross, today on plans for extending help to the civilian population of Finland.

* Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Lepp have moved from Monett to Springfield where he has gone into business.

* Laying of the cornerstone for the new St. John's Lutheran Church in Monett will be held December 18, according to Rev. R. Borth, pastor.

* A ballot is printed in The Times for those who wish to vote on their favorite Christmas window trimmed by Monett merchants.

* More than 100 dairy farmers from the seven-county area attended the District 10 meeting of the American Dairy Association in Monett yesterday.

* R.L. Gravener, of Monett, was named to serve as noble grand of Monett Lodge 106 Independent Order of Odd Fellows last night.

* Final paperwork was signed Friday for the purchase of land for a new Barry County Health Department building, Sue Burton, administrator of the health department, has announced.

* Over 400 Scouting for Food bags were distributed door-to-door Saturday in Purdy by members of Cub Scout Pack 976.
