Monett's Festival of Lights, the display of seasonal light exhibits that fills South Park, opens today at 5:30 p.m. Above is the largest addition this year, a display purchased with donations by visitors collected during 2007 and 2008. Electric Department crews tested the exhibits Monday night to make sure the lights came on, and in the case of the new exhibit, that the wheel for the mill rotated at the right speed. The Festival of Lights will be open nightly from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Entry is only from Highway 37. This year the city will be locking the park gates overnight to help deter vandalism.
