Holiday home tour planned by Habitat for Humanity

Thursday, November 19, 2009

The Monett-Purdy affiliate for Habitat for Humanity is planning to host its first Habitat Holiday Home Tour on Sunday, Dec. 6 from 4 to 6 p.m. Four Monett area homes have been selected for the tour. According to a Habitat spokesperson, funds from the effort will go toward building the group's fifth Habitat home. Work is presently underway on the fourth Habitat home in the Marshall Hill neighborhood.

The home tours will focus on contemporary styling and country sophistication. Featured homes include the Jack and Margaret Prim home at 811 Hampton Place and the home of Jon Suit at 902 E. Lakewood Dr., both in the Lakewood Terrace subdivision; the home of Kenny and Mindy Barnes at 23866 Lawrence 1104; and the home of Fred and Carrie Jobe at 401 Eighth St., which is the third residence finished by the Habitat affiliate.

Habitat for Humanity focuses on creating homes for families that likely could not have their own house. Families selected as Habitat partners invest "sweat equity" into the home's construction and purchase the home from Habitat.

Financial support for the Monett-Purdy affiliate of Habitat is provided by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.

Tickets for the home tour are available at the Monett Chamber of Commerce office, the First United Methodist Church and the First Presbyterian Church. Cost will be $5 for the tour, running 4 to 6 p.m.
