The local Auxiliary was honored as the 2009 "Auxiliary of the Year" among auxiliaries with fewer than 60 members. The award was presented by the Missouri Association of Hospital Auxiliaries.
"I'm so proud of these ladies for winning Auxiliary of the Year," said Janell Patton, Cox Monett Hospital's director of community relations and volunteer services. "This is the second time in nine years that they've won this prestigious award from the state. They always say yes when called upon and they truly do the work of 100 people even though we only have less than 30 active members."
In presenting the award to the Cox Monett Auxiliary, MHA officials noted that the 28-member not-for-profit organization donated 5,168 hours of service from June 2008 through May of this year and had raised over $25,000, which was donated to the hospital for equipment and services.
At the hospital, Auxiliary members perform various in-service programs, including administrative work, hospitality and gift shop operations. The Auxiliary also operates a "Pampering Our Patients" (POP) cart, which provides snacks and entertainment items to hospital patients.
The Auxiliary funds two $500 scholarships each year. One of the scholarships is awarded to a local high school senior and the second is given to a hospital employee who is pursuing a degree in the healthcare field.
Active members of the Cox Monett Auxiliary include: Bonnie Murray, Peggy Costley, Imogene Phillips, Lou Ellen Honeycutt, Sally Reinhardt, Annalee Huntress, Evelyn Burnett, Florene Towers, Marian Merritt, Dolores Thompson, Sharon Burke, Donna Hammond, Barb Huffman, Joanne Coufal, Josh Powell, Sue Fischer, Alice Patton, Pat Stoddard, Carleen Shanks, Luella Helmkamp, Vicki Orr, Lenore Nielsen, Kathleen Kennedy, Naty Apostol, Shirley Claybough, Marjorie Davidson, Cindy Curts, Jane Patton and Mary K. Scott.
"More than ever in this economy, volunteers are needed and are a valuable asset to our organization," Patton said. "We're so happy they were recognized for their outstanding efforts."
