Upcoming assemblies will be held next week to honor military personnel for Veteran's Day.
On Monday, Nov. 9, Pierce City High School Student Body Council will sponsor a luncheon in the cafeteria beginning at 11:30 a.m. and an assembly in the gymnasium beginning at 12:30 p.m. Cafeteria personnel will prepare the food and members of the Student Council will serve the meal.
A slide show will be presented at the assembly and a speech will be given on TAPS and the meaning of it. Kilie May, Student Council president, will present the history of Veteran's Day and read "What is a Veteran." The JROTC will conduct a folding of the American Flag and present it to the oldest veteran in attendance.
At Purdy High School, the National Honor Society will host its assembly at 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11 in the high school gymnasium.
The Purdy band and choir will provide music that will salute the five military branches. During the performance students will honor the branches by dressing in uniforms depicting a particular branch of the military.
A certificate of honor will be presented to each veteran attending. Each certificate will provide the name of the branch and when the veteran served.
A reception will immediately follow the assembly.
All area veterans are encouraged to attend the school-sponsored ceremonies.
