Eleven Cubs Named All-Conference

Eleven members of the Monett Cubs football team have been tabbed for All-Big 8 Conference honors, several at more than one position, as a result of voting by league coaches.

Named to the first team All-Conference on offense from Monett were senior Christian Privett at runningback, senior Jason Obermann at guard and senior Beau Bounous at tackle.

During the season, Privett rushed 195 times for 1,584 yards and 20 touchdowns. Obermann and Bounous were part of an offensive line that allowed the Cubs to out-rush their opponents 1,808 yards to 1,284 and out-pass their opponents 981 yards to 705.

Selected as first team All-Conference on defense from the Cubs were Bounous at end and senior Spenser Witt at back.

Bounous was also named Defensive Player of the Year.

Witt led Monett in pass interceptions with five. He also broke up seven pass attempts. Bounous was the team leader in unassisted tackles with 52 and was involved in 17 1/2 tackles for losses.

Named to the second team All-Conference on offense from Monett were Witt as receiver, Bounous as punter and junior Chris Eimer as all-purpose.

Witt topped the team in receiving yardage with 288 and in touchdown receptions with five. Bounous punted the ball 32 times for an average of 37.3 yards per punt. Eimer had 75 yards rushing, 233 yards in pass receptions and 55 yards in return yards on punts and kickoffs.

Selected as second team All-Conference on defense from the Cubs were Obermann at end, junior Kyle Fellwock at tackle, junior Ethan Davis at linebacker and Eimer at back.

Obermann had 13 tackles for losses, two sacks and two fumbles recoveries. Fellwock topped the team in fumble recoveries with three and in in total tackles with 92. Davis led the Cubs in sacks with five and was second on the team in unassisted tackles with 51. He also blocked a punt and had a safety.

Sophomore Jeff Craft, of the Cubs, was selected honorable mention All-Conference on offense at center.

Honorable mention All-Conference selections on defense from Monett were sophomore Matt Schiffner at linebacker, junior Tristen Homfeldt at linebacker, junior Marcus Enloe at back and Eimer as kicker.

Schiffner had a fumble recovery and a sack for the Cubs. Homfeldt topped the team in fumbles created with three. Enloe had a safety and had 71 total tackles. Eimer kicked off 44 times for an average of 44.8 yards per kick. He also had 17 extra points.

First team offense

The first team All-Big 8 Conference offense includes: quarterback Corey Phillips, of Mt. Vernon; runningbacks Joseph Gouvion, of Cassville, Dillon Webb, of Seneca and Christian Privett, of Monett; center Adam Prier, of Cassville; guards Tyler Skinner, of Cassville and Jason Obermann, of Monett; tackles Dylan Gibson, of Cassville and Beau Bounous, of Monett; tight end Nick Chastain, of Seneca; receivers Travis Northern, of Cassville and Jackson Tettenhorst, of Mt. Vernon; punter Corey Phillips, of Mt. Vernon; and all-purpose player Trevor Tanner, of Cassville.

First team defense

The first team All-Big 8 Conference defense includes: ends Beau Bounous, of Monett and Waylon Doty, of Aurora; tackles Garrett Mahurin, of Cassville and Derrick Hooper, of Seneca; linebackers Devin Linenbrink, of Cassville, Chase Price, of Carl Junction, Colby Hall, of Lamar and Bruce Hembree, of Seneca; backs Spenser Witt, of Monett, Corey Phillips, of Mt. Vernon, Nathan Fortner, of Seneca and Josh Lewright, of Cassville; kicker Nil Abrahams, of Carl Junction; and return specialist Joseph Gouvion, of Cassville.

Gouvion was named Offensive Player of the Year. Cassville Head Coach David Large was named Coach of the Year.

Second team offense

The second team All-Big 8 Conference offense includes: quarterback Jacob Rhoades, of Seneca; runningbacks Jared Hickman, of Aurora, Zack Waranch, of Carl Junction and Markell White, of Lamar; centers Jonathon Rozell, of Lamar and Jacob Wall, of Carl Junction; guards Jeff Burwell and Pryce Nutting, of Seneca; tackles Andrew Shackleford, of Lamar and Derrick Hooper of Seneca; ends Blake Grooms, of Mt. Vernon and Taran Holt, of Cassville; receivers Spenser Witt, of Monett and Jake Stevenson, of Carl Junction; punter Beau Bounous, of Monett; and all-purpose player Chris Eimer, of Monett.

Second team defense

The second team All-Big 8 Conference defense includes: end Jason Obermann, of Monett and Marcus Carruthers, of Seneca; tackles Matt Stockton, of Cassville and Kyle Fellwock, of Monett; linebackers Trent Tanner, of Cassville, Sam Mansfield, of East Newton, Ethan Davis, of Monett, Caleb Sayre, of Mt. Vernon and Jared Hickman, of Aurora; backs Chris Eimer, of Monett, Eric Esposito, of Seneca, Trae Coker, of Aurora and Chris Smith, of Cassville; kicker Matt Angel, of Cassville; and return specialist Caleb Myers, of Mt. Vernon.
