Two runners from Monett qualified for state as well as several other area runners in district cross country meets held on Saturday.
Hannah Martin, of the Monett Lady Cubs, qualified for state for the third straight year. She finished ninth at the Class 3A District 6 meet held at Bolivar. Marin had a time of 21:53.
Chris Renteria, of the Cubs, qualified for state by placing 13th with a time of 17:42.
The top 15 individual runners and the top two teams at districts earn the right to advance to the state cross country meet.
"Hannah has really battled injuries this season," Monett Coach Andy Lemons said. "It's good to see her hard work and determination pay off.
"Chris ran his best race of the year at the right time," said Lemons. "It's going to be exciting to see him run against the best in the state."
The Monett boys team just missed out going to state. The Cubs finished third with a score of 92. West Plains, with a score of 17, and McDonald County, with a score of 66, were the top two teams.
Other results for the Monett boys were: Micha Miller, 17th with a time of 18:31; Isaac Weber, 18th with a time of 18:43; Juan Renteria, 21st with a time of 19:10; Caleb Blue, 23rd with a time of 19:20; Bill Townsend, 30th with a time of 19:45; and Connor Kimzey, 40th with a time of 20:30.
"Miller, the only Cub senior, just missed qualifying for state by two places," Lemons said. "He worked very hard and had a great season. He's got a lot to be proud of."
Other results for the Monett Lady Cubs were: Lauren Sebastian, 36th with a time of 26:41; and Skyler Ginther, 46th with a time of 30:21.
One other area 3A runner qualified for state. Jessica Barrientos, of the Cassville Ladycats, qualified for state by placing eighth with a time of 21:50.
Several area runners qualified for state in the Class 1A District 5 meet at Joplin.
Purdy Eagles who qualified were Josiah Jones, 10th with a time of 19:09, and Corey Kelly, 15th with a time of 19:22.
Wheaton boys qualifying for state were Ben Cooper, eighth with a time of 18:58, and Jakob Beck, 11th with a time of 19:12.
Audrey Patton, of the Purdy Lady Eagles, will also be heading to state after finishing sixth at districts with a time of 23:36.
The Wheaton Lady Bulldogs will have two runners competing at state. Breanna Brattin finished 10th at districts with a time of 24:17, and Shannon Burns placed 14th with a time of 25:04.
The Purdy boys finished third at districts with a team score of 71. College Heights was first with a score of 36, and Sparta was second with a score of 48.
The Wheaton Lady Bulldogs finished third with a score of 51. College Heights finished first with a score of 31, and Sparta was second with a score of 42.
The state meet will be held this Saturday in Jefferson City. Hannah Martin will run at 12:45 p.m. and Chris Renteria will run at 1:15 p.m.
