Winifred Bell, age 87, formerly of Mountain Home, passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2009, at her assisted living residence, in Springdale.
The daughter of Earnest and Marianne Milburn, Mrs. Bell was born in rural central Missouri and grew up in a railroad family, following job assignments across several states. After high school in Kansas City, she graduated from Phillips University in 1947, the same year she married her college sweetheart, W. Robert Bell, an ordained minister in the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). They served congregations in Kansas, Missouri, and Arkansas, moving to Mountain Home in 1965, where Mrs. Bell taught junior high math, until her retirement in 1987. Her students remember her patience, dedication, and ability to teach. Mrs. Bell was steadfast in her faith, a humble servant of God, and dearly loved her Faith Group members. Her grace and determination in living with her afflictions is an inspiration to her family, her caregivers, as well as fellow assisted living residents.
Mrs. Bell is survived by her daughter, Patti Bell of Springdale, Arkansas; her son, Don Bell and wife, Lee of Rogers, Arkansas; her sister, Roberta Carlson of Downers Grove, Illinois; her sister-in-law, Lois Milburn of Wilmette, Illinois; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Fred and Phyllis Bell, Jr. of Lawrence, Kansas; plus numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a brother, and a sister.
