Which football team continues to play in 2009 will be determined by whoever wins Thursday night when the Monett Cubs travel to Seneca to take on the Indians in the Class 3A District 12 and Big 8 Conference game.
Last week the Cubs, 8-1 overall, 5-1 in the league and 1-1 in the district, defeated East Newton 37-0. Seneca, 7-2 on the year, 5-1 in the conference and 1-1 in the district, lost to Cassville 27-13. The winner of tomorrow night's game will be the runner-up in the district and will gain a post-season berth. The loser is done for the year.
Monett beat Seneca last year 35-0 to wrap up the conference and district championships. The Cubs also downed Seneca two years ago 22-20. The Indians last beat Monett in 2006 by a 35-21 score.
Offensively tomorrow, the Cubs will likely start Matt Hinkle, Ryan Cody and Spenser Witt as wide receivers, Chris Eimer as slot back, Jacob Murphy and Beau Bounous as tackles, Jeff Craft at center, Jason Obermann and Ryne Johnson as guards, Tyler Green at quarterback and Christian Privett at runningback.
Defensively, Monett will probably start Obermann and Bounous at ends, Kyle Fellwock at nose guard, Ethan Davis, Tristen Homfeldt, Jacob Childress and Matt Schiffner as linebackers, Spenser Witt and Eimer as cornerbacks and Marcus Enloe and Brandon Marion as safeties.
Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
