Delmar Leon Garner, 70, of Pierce City, passed away October 24, 2009, in the V.A. Medical Center, Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Delmar was born October 29, 1937 in Belle, Mo. to Launa and Ola Mae (Shockley) Garner. He was an educator (teacher, counselor and principal) in various schools. He was a member of the Waldensian Presbyterian Church, Monett, Missouri. Inactive due to health issues, he was a member of the Lion's Club and belonged to the retired OEA-NEA. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather.
He was married on October 14, 1960 to Vergie Ann Prokopich, which lasted 49 wonderful years.
Survivors include: wife, Vergie Ann; one daughter, Valerie Jo and husband, Adrian Beachel; two beautiful granddaughters: Bethany LeAnn and Courtney Mae Beachel, of Henryetta, Ok.; one son: Bryan Christopher Garner, of Pierce City, Missouri; brothers: Bernard and wife, Glory, of the Big Island, Pahoa, Hawaii, Charles Ray and wife, Carol, of Belle, Mo.; sisters: Leonard Faye and husband, Clifford Litton, of St. Clair, Missouri, Lavonna Kay (Shon) and husband, Daynes Jr., of Belle, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Launa Jr., Buel Dewayne (Bud) and Robert Eugene Garner.
Graveside services planned October 28, 2009 at 10 a.m., Pierce City, Mo. Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors October 27, 2009 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Bennet-Wormington Funeral Home, Monett, Missouri.

Delmar wanted everyone to know he was never bitter about his ALS diagnosis--only frustrated at times. As an organ donor he has provided a means and support in an effort for research to eradicate this disease.
