After several months of discussion and preparation, the Pierce City School Board has accepted a bid for construction of a new music and art room addition on the Pierce City R-6 School District campus.
|On Oct. 14, the Pierce City School Board held a special meeting to award the district-funded contract to Denali Construction, of Springfield.||Out of the 11 bids received, Denali had the lowest base bid in the amount of $536,900. The highest bid received was $655,000 from MSI Mason Structions, Inc., of Springfield.|
The low bid accepted by the R-6 School Board was $86,000 higher than the orginal architect's estimate of $450,000.
On Oct. 15, Werner and Associates, who has headed up the project, mailed Denali its official notice of award.
The Pierce City School Board will meet on Oct. 28. Weather permitting, construction on the addition is expected to begin on Oct. 29. The contractor has 152 days to complete the project, which will add 4,000 square feet to the southside of the existing high school gym building.
In addition, Denali will be heading the removal of asbestos and floor finishes and tile from the school's lobby area at a cost of $10,500, and casework in the music room, which will include cabinetry and storage at a cost of $9,800.
EFCO will be providing windows for the project. Vaughn's will be doing dirt work.
