Area residents won't have to drive very far to access services that are available through the American Cancer Society (ACS) now that an ACS Patient Educational Resource Center has opened in Monett.
The new resource room is located in Old Town Pharmacy and is open seven days a week during the pharmacy's regular business hours, which are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
The resource room can be utilized by anyone who is battling any form of cancer. A wide range of educational materials as well as free protein drinks and wigs are offered by ACS and can now be accessed locally at the Monett resource room.

The opening of the resource room at Old Town Pharmacy in Monett came as a result of a discussion held at a Breast Friends breast cancer support group. This group meets on the second Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the admissions lobby of Cox Monett Hospital.
"At our first official meeting, we had an ACS representative speak to us," said Carmen Jenkins, a breast cancer survivor who helped start the Breast Friends group. "She shared that they were looking for a place in the Monett to house a resource room.
"Mary Ann Metz, who is a member of our group, and her husband Louis Metz, offered Old Town Pharmacy, a room was built and now we have a resource room," Jenkins said.
To access the resource room, individuals simply need to go into Old Town Pharmacy where any of the pharmacists or technicians can assist them. There is no cost to use the resource room, and it is open to all area residents.
"This resource room is a place where people can access all the free services offered by ACS," said Jenkins.
Old Town Pharmacy is located in the Old Towne Village shopping center at the intersection of Highway 60 and Chapell Drive.
