Area bikers displayed their continued support of needy children in Barry and Lawrence counties at the eighth annual Toy Run that kicked off on Saturday, Oct. 10 at the Church of the Nazarene in Monett.
The unseasonable weather didn't hinder the 47-plus bikers who rode approximately 45 miles through a scenic tour of the Ozarks. Officers from the Monett Police Department and the Barry County Sheriff's Department were on-hand to help block traffic.
In addition, women from the Church of the Nazarene provided refreshments and a luncheon for riders upon their return.
During the event approximately $750 and two truckloads of toys were donated. The donations raised will be distributed to needy families during the holiday season as part of Linn Thornton's annual Christmas toy drive.
"We would like to thank everyone who participated and helped," said co-organizer Gary Updike. "Without everyone's support, this would not have been possible."
The winners of the drawing prizes included: Gary Updike, a custom motorcycle paint job donated by Michael Barkoff; Bubba Duff, a GPS system donated by Jack Henry and Associates; Pam Robinson, a homemade quilt donated by Sue Updike; Anne Thornton, two afghans donated by Nora Dalke and Darlene Murphy; Kelly Hale, $100 gift certificate donated by Justin Boot; Sammy Jack Sr., two $100 certificates donated by Requa Tattoo; Tina Cagle, a basket of baby blankets donated by Sue Updike and Julie Moody; Ricky Woole, a motorcycle display case donated by Denney's Harley Davidson; Sammy Jack, Sr., a motorcycle display case donated by Cycle Connection; Tom Mobley, a quilt donated by Nicky Fahlsing; and Melissa Baxter, two jackets donated by Larlene Morrison.
