Unable to generate any offense, the Monett Cubs soccer team was beaten 5-0 by host Greenwood in Springfield last night.
Monett is now 8-6 on the year.
"We played hard the entire game," said Monett Coach Jeremy Wilson. "The team fought through not having four starters.
"I was very impressed with the class and poise the team showed in what became a very physical game," Wilson said. "We just have to find ways to put the ball through the net if we want to win games against quality opponents."
Greenwood was led by the play of Chris Aiken in getting the win. Aiken had two goals and two assists.
In the first half, Jordan Johnston scored off an assist from Devon Whitlock. Aiken had an unassisted goal to make the score 2-0 at the half.
The second half saw the Cubs show a spirited fire as they pressured Greenwood early and often, but were unable to score on this frigid evening.
Cory McCoy and Stuart Beezley had second half goals, and Aiken had assists on both. Aiken ended the scoring with his second goal on an assist by Whitlock.
"Greenwood is a quality opponent," said Wilson. "I know the team wishes we could have played this game at full strength."
Monett will be in action Monday at Bolivar.
