It will be the first of three Class 3A district football games tomorrow night as well as an important Big 8 Conference battle when the Monett Cubs travel to Cassville to take on the Wildcats.
Ranked number one in the state in Class 3A by the Missouri Associated Press, the Cubs will face their stiffest challenge to date when they tangle with Cassville, ranked fifth in the state.
Monett is 7-0 overall and 4-0 in the league. Cassville is tied for the league lead with the Cubs and Seneca with a 4-0 mark. For the year, the Wildcats are 6-1.
Last year, the Cubs nipped Cassville in the district and league game 13-7 on the way to the district and conference titles. The Wildcats came back to defeat Monett in the state sectional game last year by a 28-14 score.
Two years ago the Cubs edged Cassville 21-20 in the district contest. Three years ago Cassville prevailed over the Cubs 41-21.
Monett got past Lamar last week 28-21, while Cassville beat Carl Junction 28-0.
Offensively tomorrow, the Cubs will likely start Matt Hinkle, Ryan Cody and Spenser Witt as wide receivers, Chris Eimer as slot back, Jacob Murphy and Beau Bounous as tackles, Jeff Craft at center, Jason Obermann and Ryne Johnson as guards, Tyler Green at quarterback and Christian Privett at runningback.
Defensively, Monett will probably start Obermann and Bounous at ends, Kyle Fellwock at nose guard, Ethan Davis, Tristen Homfeldt, Jacob Childress and Matt Schiffner as linebackers, Spenser Witt and Eimer as cornerbacks and Marcus Enloe and Brandon Marion as safeties.
Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Cassville.
