H1N1 vaccine has arrived

Monday, October 12, 2009

The first shipment of H1N1 vaccine has arrived in Barry County.

According to Barry County Health Department Administrator Kathleen King, her office received a shipment of H1N1 flumist spray vaccine on Friday.

This vaccine, which is administered through a nasal spray, is earmarked for healthcare providers, childcare providers and children attending childcare as well as emergency services personnel. This type of vaccine is for non-pregnant, healthy 2- to 49-year-olds.

King said the health department is expecting to receive injectable vaccine at the end of the month. The exact number of doses is not confirmed at this time.

Health department officials continue to urge area residents to practice good handwashing, proper cough etiquette and to stay home when sick to protect the rest of the community.

For more information or to find out if you are among those who qualify to receive the vaccine, contact the health department office in Cassville at 417-847-2114.
