With a score of 124, the Monett varsity boys cross country team took fifth place among 11 teams competing Saturday in the East Newton Invitational.
Neosho won the 5,000-meter race with a score of 60. McDonald County was second with a score of 61, followed by College Heights 71 and East Newton 74.
Chris Renteria was the leading runner for the Cubs. He was 16th with a time of 17:33.
Other runners for Monett were: Micha Miller, 18th with a time of 17:34; Isaac Weber, 30th with a time of 18:09; Juan Renteria, 31st with a time of 18:11; Bill Townsend, 35th with a time of 18:22; Connor Kimzey, 42nd with a time of 18:48; and Caleb Blue, 57th with a time of 19:41.
Among other boys Barry County runners, Jacob Jennings, of Southwest, finished 19th with a time of 17:39.
The varsity girls team from Monet did not score in the meet.
Running for the girls were: Hannah Martin, 14th with a time of 21:11; Lauren Sebastian, 47th with a time of 24:35; and Skyler Ginther, 57th with a time of 27:54.
Among other girls Barry County runners, Audrey Patton, of Purdy, finished 18th with a time of 21:50.
In the junior varsity boys race, Monett finished second with a score of 41. McDonald County won the jayvee race with a score of 27.
Competing for the Monett junior varsity boys were: Ryan Saunders, seventh with a time of 19:47; Michael Morley, eighth with a time of 19:54; Luke Verhoff, 10th with a time of 20:00; Daniel Bryan, 19th with a time of 20:55; and Jacques De Plessis, 27th with a time of 22:14.
Monett is next in action tomorrow at Springfield Catholic.
