By taking first place in three singles flights and in a doubles flight, the Monett Lady Cubs captured the championship of the Big 8 Conference tennis tournament held on Friday at Aurora.
"These girls played inspired tennis in a 13-hour tournament," said Monett Coach Bob Crain.
"It was a great effort by all three Monett girls in their singles flight," Crain said. "The number two doubles team (Katelyn Sperandio and Theresa Mangler) surprised everyone with their strongest showing of the year by sweeping all four of their matches."
Carl Junction finished second in the conference tournament, followed in order by Lamar, Aurora and Mt. Vernon.
Going undefeated with 4-0 records in singles play for the Lady Cubs were Millie Fulton, Sperandio and Nrupa Desai.
Other netters winning singles titles were Haley Nagel and Kailey Roland, of Lamar, and Fien Dobbeleave, of Carl Junction.
Also winning doubles titles were Eric Pope and Haley Pope, of Carl Junction, and Kourtney Walker and Taylor Clements, of Lamar.
Monett is next in action at Webb City today.
