The Lady Cubs could not gain control of the critical third set, and dropped a three-set match to Cassville at Monett on Thursday night, absorbing the loss in the Big 8 conference volleyball match, 25-20, 15-25, and 25-19.
When Jerica Wiseman slammed home the deciding point to give the Monett JV girls a straight set win over Cassville, the confidence and enthusiasm spread through the varsity as they prepared for their Big 8 match against the visiting Lady Wildcats.
Even though Cassville only trailed once at 1-0 while winning the opening set, Monett smelled the possible upset. The Lady Cubs fought from seven points back to a 19-19 tie before Cassville's Naomi Beck served for four consecutive points, and then Emily Pry hit the set winner off Kelli Cornell's serve.
