With a score of 60, the Monett Cubs boy cross country team took second place yesterday in the seven-team Lamar Invitational.
East Newton won the event with 28 points. Other teams and scores were Lamar 80, Diamond 120, Carl Junction 133, Webb City 137 and Southwest 161.
|"I'm very pleased with how we competed in our races," said Monett Coach Andy Lemons.||"This meet gave us a good idea of how we stack up in the conference, " Lemons stated. "We still have some work to do, but we're going in the right direction."|
Micha Miller was the top finisher for the Monett boys. He had a personal best time of 17:35 to take second place.
Other Monett boys results were: Chris Renteria, seventh with a time of 18:04; Bill Townsend, 17th with a time of 18:55; Isaac Weber, 18th with a time of 19:00; Juan Renteria, 19th with a time of 19:01; Connor Kimzey, 29th with a time of 19:45; and Caleb Blue, 37th with a time of 20:30 in his first varsity game.
The Monett varsity girls did not have a team score. Running for Monett were Hannah Martin, who finished fifth with a time of 21:39; and Whitney Dahlstrom, who placed 25th with a time of 26:22.
Junior varsity Monett boys results were: Ryan Saunders, 13th with a time of 20:49; Luke Verhoff, 18th with a time of 21:12; Michael Morley, 19th with a time of 21:33; Jacques Du Plessis, 25th with a time of 22:54; and Daniel Bryan, 26th with a time of 22:56.
For the Monet junior varsity girls, Skylar Ginther placed 10th with a time of 28:03.
Monett is next in action Saturday at East Newton.
