Monett logged a Big 8 Conference victory last night and took fourth place in the Strafford Tournament last weekend in volleyball action.
In the first Big 8 test of the season, the Lady Cubs emerged victorious over East Newton by scores of 25-13 and 25-13.
The Monett spikers are 1-0 in the league and 9-11-1 on the year.
"We played strong and focused," said Monett Coach Shyrah Boyle.
"We had the intensity and the right attitude that helped put us over the top," Boyle said. "Our setters stayed very smart and followed the game plan."
Statistical leaders for Monett were Hunter Glouse and Brooke Beckwith with five kills, Tandi Glouse and Keli Cornell with four kills, Amanda McKinney with seven digs and Jenny Frazier with two blocks.
Monett also won the junior varsity encounter by scores of 29-27 and 25-18.
Darian Shields had eight kills for the jayvee Lady Cubs, and Jerica Wiseman had 10 digs.
In the Stafford tourney, Monett split with Osceola by scores of 12-25 and 25-23, lost to Springfield Catholic by scores of 19-25 and 21-25, lost to Crane by scores of 26-28 and 21-25, beat Sparta by scores of 21-25, 25-19 and 25-15, defeated Galena by scores of 19-25, 25-19 and 26-24 and lost to Spokane by scores of 19-25 and 18-25.
Keli Cornell had 19 kills and 25 digs in the tournament to lead the Lady Cubs.
Monett plays tomorrow at home versus Cassville.
