"God told me to do this," Simpson humbly said. "The people in this area are very kind and gracious."
Simpson was welcomed with open arms by patrons in Pierce City yesterday and by the Tom Wolfe Memorial Post #4207 where he spent the night. The cross is 14 feet long and is attached to a wagon, which contains his personal belongings.
Simpson said his goal is to walk across the entire United States. Simpson, who began his walk in Nacogodoches, Texas, will be 61 years old on Monday, Sept. 28.
