Monett Splits, Verona Wins In Area Volleyball Action

Monett split, Verona won and Pierce City and Purdy lost in recent volleyball action.

With one match going extra long, the Monett Lady Cubs were defeated last night in a hard-fought encounter by the Carl Junction Bulldogs at Carl Junction. Monett lost by scores of 17-25 and 31-33.

The Lady Cubs dropped to 6-7 on the year.

Statistical leaders for Monett were Brooke Beckwith with 12 digs, Tandi Glouse with four blocks and Maddie Schmidt with nine assists.

"I am happy with our fight in the second match," said Monett Coach Shyrah Boyle.

Carl Junction also won the junior varsity game by scores of 25-20 and 25-14.

On Monday night, the Lady Cubs downed Aurora by scores of 25-22 and 25-23.

"We stayed consistant and finished," Boyle said. "Our defense picked up, making things click."

Statistical leaders for Monett were Maddie Schmidt with nine assists, Hunter Glouse with six kills, Chelsey Abramovitz with eight kills and Beckwith with 12 digs.

Monett lost the jayvee game by scores of 16-25 and 18-25.

Monett plays at Mt. Vernon tomorrow.

Other scores

Verona upended Southwest by scores of 25-16 and 25-17 at Verona last night.

Statistical leaders for Verona were Jori Dodson with 13 kills, Beth Bigham with 17 assists, Tristan Carrasquillo with six kills and Jenna Chadd with 13 digs.

Pierce City lost last night to College Heights by scores of 10-25, 30-28 and 19-25.

Statistical leaders for Pierce City were Chelsey Livingston with 12 kills and 19 digs, Kaelyn Osborn with 13 digs and two aces and Megan Golubski with 23 assists.

Purdy was beaten by Exeter by scores of 8-25 and 16-25.
