Paige Marney, of the Monett Lady Cubs, followed up her one-hitter against East Newton earlier last week with a two-hit gem on Friday as visiting Monett defeated Southwest, 7-0, in a non-conference softball game.
The Lady Cubs improved to 9-2 for the season.
"The girls did a nice job of adjusting as the game went on," said Monett Coach Ty Goetz.
"The had a hard time waiting back on the ball but once they did they started hitting the ball hard," he continued. "Defensively we did a nice job of keeping them off base."
Marney struck out 11 batters and issued just two walks in tossing the shut-out.
EmiLee Davis, Marney's battery mate, provided the offensive punch. Davis belted a three-run homer in the four-run fifth inning. She finished the game with two hits, three runs scored and three runs batted in.
The Lady Cubs used the long ball in the victory. Aubrey Lemaster started the scoring for Monett with a one-out homer in the third inning.
Also hitting home runs for Monett were Marney to start the fourth and Tiffany Carver to begin the fifth.
Southwest took the junior varsity game, 2-1. Hannah Arnold and Jessica Harper had hits for the jayvee girls.
Monett travels to Carl Junction tomorrow for a conference contest.
