Wanda Lee Estes Brown Holden closed her pretty blue eyes at 4:35 a.m., September 17, 2009. Surrounded by her family, the angels came and sang this lovely lady home. Her shining white hair was like a halo on her head as she left in the arms of Jesus.
Born January 19, 1926 in Sylvia, KS, she was the daughter of the late Roy Estes and Nina Town Estes. She owned and operated her own upholstery and fabric shop. She was a member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Pulaskifield, MO, and active at the Monett Senior Center. Her artistic talent extended to oil painting and creating her own greeting cards. She was always working with her hands.
On October 11, 1946 she married Constantine (Connie) P. Brown in Dodge City, Ks. He preceded her in death October 18, 1956. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Helen Mae Davidson.
On June 18, 1964 she married Robert Raymond Holden of Dodge City.
Survivors include four daughters, Connie Brust and husband Lynn of Kokomo, IN, Kathy Butler and husband Bob of Jacksonville, NC, Jo Alexander and husband Sam of Harrison, Anita Francis and husband Carl of Carl Junction, MO; two sons, Marc Brown of Kokomo, Jeff Holden and wife Carrie of Billings, MO; one sister, Elva June Sharp and husband Bob of Monett, MO; 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Also special in Wanda's life were the Holden children, Terri, Jan, Cindy, Rick, Pam, Denise, Michele and Tina.
A prayer service will be held at Parker Mortuary in Joplin, MO at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21st, after which the family will receive friends.
Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m. Wed. Sept. 23rd at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City, KS.
