September 21, 1929

* Mrs. Vincent Davis was elected president of the General Aid of the Methodist Church in Monett at a meeting last night.

* Mr. and Mrs. Percy Johnson, of Monett, left Friday for Dallas, Texas, to visit her sister, Mrs. Bert Dummitt.

* Mr. and Mrs. V.B. Hall, of Monett, went to Kansas City on Monday to visit friends and relatives.

* Mr. and Mrs. Troy McCubbin and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Brown, all of Monett, who were married Saturday, were given a chivari on Monday.

* Burglars blew the safe Sunday night at Wilks Lumber Yard in Verona and escaped with $380 in cash.

* Parker Sizer, son of Mr. and Mrs. F.P. Sizer, of Monett, is returning to Thomas Jefferson School in St. Louis this week.

* Captain Carl Teel, commanding officer of the Monett National Guard unit for the past five years, has been reassigned to headquarters staff in Joplin as signal officer.

* Student Council members at Purdy include seniors Janet Stapleton and Larry Purdom, juniors Mary Amundson and Donnie Garrison, sophomores Mary Brite and Gary Jordan, and freshmen Barbara Fare and Bobby Veith.

* Almon Maus, of Monett, and Joe Ellis, of Cassville, have been awarded the Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the School of Law at the University of Missouri.

* Elected to the Principal's Advisory Council at Monett High School were seniors Jon Mourglia and Rick Strickland, juniors Doug Stanley and Larry Finn, sophomores Gail Brockschmidt and Jim St. Clair, and freshmen Ted Norris and Bob Banks.

* Jim Wheeler of the investment firm of Edward D. Jones and Company in Monett has announced that Marilyn Heagerty, of Monett, has completed the STAR training program.

* Reports on damage to the city wastewater treatment plant by lightning and insurance commitments became the central focus of the September meeting of the city council in Pierce City.

* The Ozark Health Care Consortium, a non-profit organization in Pineville, will begin providing clinical services at the Barry County Health Department in Cassville on Monday.

* World War flying ace Captain Eddie Rickenbacker has said that no matter who wins the present European conflict, Russia will benefit.

* Mr. and Mrs. W. Vance Davis, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Mason, Mr. and Mrs. H.W. McEachen, Mr. and Mrs. V.A. Willey and Mrs. F.E. Bowen were among those from Monett who attended the fair in Springfield on Tuesday.

* Mrs. Edmund Planchon has been elected as the new president of the Forest Park Parent Teachers Association.

* Troy Hilton announced today the opening of Troy's Barbershop at Sixth Street and Broadway in Monett.

* A tire blowout caused a truck loaded with five cows to overturn on its top beside Highway 60 a mile west of Billings yesterday.

* Fire of undetermined origin early this morning caused heavy damage to the Wheaton Clinic owned and operated by Dr. Fred Clark.

September 22, 1979

* A raging propane-fed fire at Empiregas facilities on County Road in Monett threatened the heart section of the city and resulted in massive evacuation of hundreds of cities from the threatened area, but the fire was soon contained.

* Plans for a $605,000 telephone service improvement program which will provide for replacement of most aerial and some underground telephone cable has been announced by Phil Corkins, manager of Southwestern Bell.

* Peggy Brockschmidt, a native of Monett, has been named vice president of finance for American Multi-Cinema Inc. in Kansas City.

* Timmy Forester, a Marionville youth sponsored by the Monett Jaycees at Camp Wonderland Jaycee Camp for the handicapped, will be a special guest of the Jaycee meeting on Tuesday.

* It has been announced that Cassville City Hall will be the site of a town hall meeting conducted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol tomorrow.

* Elected to the Monett Little League board for next year were Anita Sitton, president; and Randy Johnson, treasurer.
