'Movie Madness' Is Theme For Monett Football Homecoming

Miss Sara Dian Hammond, daughter of Jim and Renea Hammond, will be crowned 2009 Homecoming Queen at Monett High School during coronation ceremonies this Friday afternoon in a special assembly at the high school and again Friday night just prior to the Monett-Carl Junction football game.

Completing this year's Homecoming royalty are senior maids of honor Christine Ann Fillinger and Iliana Rangel, junior attendant Lauren Sebastian, sophomore attendant Sophie Fulton and freshman attendant Ariana Diaz.

In addition to the formal coronation and pep assembly, a 3:45 p.m. parade down Broadway with be held Friday afternoon. Other activities Friday night will include presentation ceremonies for the royal court preceding the gridiron clash.

A dance in honor of the royalty will culminate the colorful celebration, which centers on the "Movie Madness" theme this year.

The formal coronation begins at 2:25 p.m. in the high school gymnasium to begin the assembly, which will be led by the cheerleaders.

Pre-game festivities Friday are set for 6:40 p.m. and will include presentation of the royal court on the field. Kick-off for the game will be at 7 p.m.

The traditional Homecoming Dance will be held in the gym, from approximately 9 p.m. to midnight. the cost is $5 per person or $9 per couple. At the door, the cost is $6 per person and $10 per couple.

The Student Senate is in charge of the parade and will oversee the dance.

During the afternoon coronation, members of the royal court will be escorted by members of the MHS Cubs football team and will be presented with gifts. At the game, members of the Monett soccer team will escort the royalty and cheerleaders.

Homecoming court

Miss Hammond is a member of M-Club, link crew, Book Club, National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Spiritual Streams Fellowship and the Marching Pride Band. She is also captain of the cheerleading squad, a member of the track team and is senior class treasurer.

The queen has indicated the most valuable thing she has learned in high school is "time goes by fast so cherish every moment, and don't waste time being something you are not."

Sara enjoys reading, spending time with family, playing the piano and hanging out with friends.

Miss Fillinger, senior maid of honor, is the daughter of Chris and Gwen Fillinger and Jim and Shellie Holland. She is a member of Future Teachers of America, National Honor Society, and is district officer for Skills USA.

Christine enjoys watching Michigan football with her father and hanging out with friends and her sister, Alex.

The most valuable thing she had learned is to "find out who your true friends are and to make the most out of what you have."

Maid of honor Miss Rangel is the daughter of Manuel and Maria Rangel. She is a member of the Art Club, president of the Multicultural Leadership Club and treasurer of the Key Club.

Iliana enjoys sketching, listening to music, watching soccer games and being outdoors.

She said she hopes to enjoy her last year in school with her friends and "hopefully graduate with high honors."

Junior attendant Sebastian is the daughter of Chris and Tina Sebastian. She is a member of Future Business Leaders of America, Book Club and the cross country team.

Lauren likes hanging out with friends, listening to music, shopping, spending time with family, Friday night football games and working at Mocha Jo's.

The junior attendant said she has learned is to "stay close with your friends and that time flies so make the most of it and don't take any moment for granted."

Sophomore attendant Fulton is the daughter of Jack and Sue Fulton. She is a member of Future Business Leaders of America and the track, tennis and swimming teams.

Sophie enjoys traveling, hanging out with friends and sports.

She said she has learned the importance of old and new friends.

Freshman attendant Diaz is the daughter of Miguel and Josefina Diaz. She is a member of the Multicultural Club and Key Club.

Ariana enjoys shopping and hanging out with friends and hopes to graduate with high honors.

Escorts for the royalty at the game will be Al Dohmen and Uriel Rueda for the queen, Daniel Salazar and Harald Gabriel for maid of honor Fillinger, Mauricio Trujillo and Jose Lopez for maid of honor Rangel, Clayton Patton and Abraham Mejia for the junior attendant, Bryan Beckwith and Nick Forbis for the sophomore attendant, and Alex Hernandez and Cesar Gonzalez for the freshmen attendant.

Cheerleaders and their escorts will be: Sarah Edwards, Ricardo Morales; Kayla Vesco, Luis Rueda; Alyssa Hermann, Kate Toman; Kaitlyn Schumacher, Billy Storkson; Aubrey LaGarce, Andres DeLeon; Sami Nielsen, Pedro Almaraz; Holly Abramovitz, Caleb McCurry; Allie Barton, Juan Corrales; Jordan Hancock, Freddy Lopez; Morgan Huntress, Ricardo Ortega; and Jordan VanLue, Cody Hartman.
