'There's no place like homecoming' for Pierce City High School this week

Wednesday, September 16, 2009

"There's No Place Like Homecoming" is the theme for Pierce City High School this week as the Eagles celebrate homecoming. Activities are planned around a "Wizard of Oz" motif during the week as students build up to a football showdown with Liberal on Friday.

The student body will vote Thursday for the homecoming queen, who will be crowned at 6:20 p.m. on Friday prior to the 7 p.m. kickoff. Vying for the crown are senior Kelsie Baldwin, daughter of Randy Baldwin and Tami Dillbeck; senior Katelyn Hansen, daughter of Stan and Fawn Hansen; and senior Kim Parrigon, daughter of Jim and Debbie Parrigon.

The junior attendant will be Cheyenne King, daughter of Anessa Brown and Craig King. Brittany Young, daughter of Debbi Willoughby and Stevie Young, is the sophomore attendant. Faith Strong, daughter of Vicky and Allan Strong, is the freshman attendant.

Special activities are planned all week. Monday was "Ruby Slippers Day," when students wore their "crazy kicks" to school. Following the volleyball game, a jersey auction was planned.

"There's No Place Like Home" was the theme for Tuesday, when students plan to where pajamas or their most comfortable clothes to school. Wednesday will be "Follow the Yellow Brick Road" Day when students will search for yellow bricks hidden throughout the school.

On Thursday, "Off To See The Wizard" Day will give students a chance to dress up as their favorite "Oz" characters. A homecoming pep assembly will be held at 2:45 p.m. in the high school gym.

Friday will be "Off to the Emerald City," when students will wear green and white to show school spirit. A dance will follow the game in the high school cafeteria.

For the coronation ceremony, Jason Garner, son of Steve and Sarah Garner, will be the crown bearer. Ella Dirks, daughter of Josh and Tiffany Dirks, will be the flower girl.

Escorting Miss Baldwin will be Nick Prescott and Robert Baldwin. Jordan Saffer and Kyle Crouch will escort Miss Parrigon. Alex Clayton and Levi Breeding will escort Miss Hansen.

Homecoming is sponsored by the Student Council.
