Going into the Thomas Jefferson Invitational volleyball tournament Saturday the Monett Lady Cubs were winless this season. Once the day was over, however, the Lady Cubs had four wins and a second place finish.
Monett is now 4-4 on the year.
"I'm very proud of the effort," said Monett Coach Shyrah Boyle. "I saw a lot of heart."
She added that it takes the entire nine-person rotation to gel, and that she saw some positive things momentum-wise.
"I was very pleased with out uptempo play," Coach Boyle concluded.
In the championship game against Lee's Summit Community Christian School, the Lady Cubs went down fighting, losing by scores of 20-25 and 22-25.
Monett had fought back in the second match to tie the score at 22-all on a spike by Brooke Beckwith but Lee's Summit got the last three points to win.
Statistical leaders for Monett were Amanda McKinney with eight digs, Chelsey Abramovitz with six kills and Hunter Glouse with four blocks.
In the first game, the Lady Cubs and Lee's Summit were tied at 9 when Lee's Summit ran off seven straight points to take charge.
Monett defeated Sheldon, 25-6 and 25-6 for its first win of the season in pool play in the eight-team tournament, and followed that up with a 25-13 and 25-21 victory over Thomas Jefferson.
In bracket play, the Lady Cubs upended Pleasant Hope by scores of 25-10 and 25-14.
