Nine Injured In Area Crashes

Nine people were injured in several area traffic wrecks since last Friday.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol issued the following reports:

A Monett man was hurt in a one-vehicle crash at 3:10 a.m. Saturday four miles south of Monett on Barry County Farm Road 2050.

Robert Painter, 19, the driver, sustained serious injuries and was taken to Cox Medical Center South in Springfield. He was not wearing a seat belt, the Patrol said.

The wreck occurred when the westbound Acura driven by Painter went off the road and struck a culvert.

Investigating the crash was Trooper Gregory Curnes.

Three Monettans were injured in a one-vehicle wreck at 10:25 p.m. Friday a half mile west on Wentworth on Highway J in Newton County.

Sergio Munoz-Moreno, 17, the driver, sustained moderate injuries. Two passengers were also hurt. Edgar Rodriguez, 19, sustained minor injuries, and Jose Lopez, 17, sustained serious injuries. All were taken to Cox Monett Hospital. None of the injured were wearing seat belts, the Patrol reported.

The crash occurred when the eastbound Pontiac driven by Munoz-Moreno was going at a high rate of speed, left the road and struck a utility pole.

Investigating the wreck was Trooper  Clint Mason.

An Exeter woman was hurt in a one-vehicle crash at 7:10 p.m. yesterday four miles east of Wheaton on Highway W in Barry County.

Jessica Garrison, 22, the driver, sustained serious injuries and was taken to Cox Medical Center South in Springfield. She was wearing a seat belt, the Patrol said.

The wreck occurred when the eastbound Chevrolet pickup driven by Garrison went off the road, overcorrected and struck a bridge railing, coming to rest in the middle of the road.

Investigating the crash was Trooper Todd Hilburn.

A Raytown man was injured in a three-vehicle Barry County wreck at 8:45 a.m. yesterday on Highway 86 in Eagle Rock.

Franklin Edwards, 52, one of the drivers, sustained serious injuries and was taken to Cox Medical Center South in Springfield.

Joe Mitchell, 21, of Eagle Rock, and Victor Hammons, 52, of Golden, the other two drivers, were not hurt.

The crash occurred when the westbound motorcycle ridden by Edwards was attempting to make a left turn and was struck by an eastbound Nissan driven by Mitchell. The motorcycle then hit a westbound Ford truck driven by Hammons.

Investigating the wreck was Trooper Andy Ward.

A Conway, Ark., man was hurt in a one-vehicle crash at 6:11 a.m. yesterday 12 miles east of Mt. Vernon on Interstate 44 at Highway 96 in Lawrence County.

Brian Shrauger, 30, the driver, sustained minor injuries and was taken to St. John's Regional Health Center in Springfield.

The wreck occurred when the westbound Freightliner driven by Shrauger went out of control on a curve in heavy fog, went off the road and struck a sign and several trees.

Investigating the crash was Trooper Darren Call.

An Exeter infant was injured in a one-vehicle wreck at 3:30 p.m. Sunday two miles west of Exeter on Barry County Farm Road 1057.

Gizelle Lee, the infant, sustained minor injuries and was taken to St. John's Hospital-Cassville. She was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Lia Lee, 21, of Exeter.

The crash occurred when the eastbound Honda driven by Lee failed to stop at an intersection and struck an embankment.

Investigating the wreck was Trooper Hilburn.

An Ozark man was hurt in a two-vehicle crash at 11:35 p.m. Friday a mile west of Mt. Vernon on Interstate 44 in Lawrence County.

John Holmes, 42, one of the drivers, sustained moderate injuries and was taken to St. John's Regional Health Center in Springfield.

Hazel Hitchcock, 27, of San Antonio, Texas, the other driver, was not hurt.

The wreck occurred when the eastbound Toyoto driven by Hitchcock struck the eastbound Dodge truck driven by Holmes in the back end causing the Dodge to go off the road into a ditch and overturn several times.

Investigating the crash was Trooper Larry Ray.
