Enthusiasm is high on the Monett High School volleyball team as the Lady Cubs prepare for their season opener Tuesday at Carthage.
"I really look forward to see how this senior group will lead," said Shyrah Boyle, new head coach of the Lady Cubs. "Our junior class has a great work ethic, and our sophomore class is loaded. Our freshmen have come in with wonderful energy and positive attitude."
Monett returns two starters from last year's team which finished the year with a record of 13-16-3. Returning starters are seniors Keli Cornell and Brooke Beckwith.
Other returning lettermen are juniors Amanda McKinney and Jenny Frazier and sophomore Hunter Glouse.
Boyle listed four other players expected to make a big impact for the Cubs. They are seniors Chelsey Abramovitz and Tandi Glouse, junior Madison Carlin and sophomore Maddie Schmidt.
"I feel we have a great group of girls who can make a big impression in our conference," said Boyle. "We are working hard on improving our defense, so our offense can make some noise."
Looking at the upcoming season, the coach said, "Every game we play is important. We will look past no one and push to make every game important. Our goal is to play our game every match."
