Fans of Monett Cubs, Carl Junction Bulldogs and Carthage Tigers football got their first chance to observe those teams in action this season under near game-like conditions as the teams took part last Friday in the jamboree held at Carl Junction.
Monett, in Class 3A, competed against two Class 4A teams, first against Carl Junction and then against Carthage.
In the first scrimmage, Monett's passing and rushing, as well as defensive play, got the better of Carl Junction.
Monett then played against Carthage and was shut down.
Coach Alan Spencer of the Cubs said, "I felt we did some things well and some things need improvement. As in all jamborees, we do not get to a game plan and it puts all teams at a disadvantage. Offensively, we functioned without any turnovers, but missed a few assignments. Most of the mistakes are correctable errors and will give us something to work on this week. Defensively, we were in the correct area, but our tackling needs to improve.
|"On both sides, these are common areas that need attention this early in the season. Fortunately, we did not have||any injuries and will be able to go into the first game of the season healthy."|
Monett will see Carl Junction again the fifth week of the season. It will be a Big 8 Conference match up and also Monett's homecoming.
