Steven Greenland, 45, of Houston, Tex., formerly of Purdy, died on July 18 in Houston following a three-year battle with kidney cancer.
Steve was a 1982 graduate of Monett High School. He earned an undergraduate degree at Washington University in St. Louis and a master's degree in chemical engineering from the University of California at Santa Barbara. He moved to Houston in 1988. He worked in process control software at AspenTech and Ellipsis before pursuing firewall software development at Livermore Software Laboratories.
Steve was involved with Debian GBU/Linux developers' projects, the Sports Car Club of America and the Texas Airedale Rescue Team, where he and his wife fostered more than 20 dogs over the years.
He married Erin Blair, and she survives.
Additional survivors include his parents, Joan and Scott Greenland of Vancouver, Wash., formerly of Purdy; and his grandfather, Cort Kuehnert of Yucaipa, Calif.
Burial was in Houston, Tex., under the direction of the Bradshaw-Carter Home.
